KALILANGAN FESTIVAL

As year, General Santos City marks its foundation anniversary on February 27 with various activities culminating the week long celebration of Kalilangan Festival. The anniversary celebration commemorates the landing of the city's founder, General Paulino Santos, along with the first settlers from Luzon, at the shores of Sarangani Bay.

As the "Generals" (as General Santos City residents proudly call themselves) mark Gensan's 69th Foundation Anniversary on Wednesday, they are expected to flock the city's major thoroughfares to witness anew the Kadsagayan, one of the highlights of the colorful 13th Kalilangan Festival.

Kadsayagan is a street dance competition starting from the historical Lion's Beach to the Oval Plaza where the final showdown is held, Performers, representing each of the city's barangays, outwit each others in this cultural competition, showcasing marvelous performances to the delight of the crowd.

All contingents depicted the arrival on February 27, 1939 of 64 Christian settlers and 17 employees of National Land Settlement Administration led by General Paulino Santos.
Lending a colorful backdrop to this dramatization was the energetic display through re engineered dance steps and costumes of welcoming Bilaans and Maguindanaons.
twelve years ago, the city government, encouraged by the success of Davao's Kadayawan, Cebu's Sinulog and Iloilo's Dinagyang, institutionalized the foundation celebration by introducing the Kalilangan Festival. The city then appointed the Kalilangan Foundation Inc., an accredited non-governmental organization, to oversee the management of the festival.

From its humble beginnings, the city was able to hurdle the challenges that goes with a young festival.

"Year in, year out, we were able to generate an enthusiastic response not only from the local constituents but also people from other places," the energetic City Mayor Pedro "Jun" Acharon had said.
Kalilangan is derived from the root word "kalilang" which typically means celebration or commemoration in the Maguindanaon dialect.

In a broader perspective, Kalilang projects a positive and dynamic meaning for it engulfs the artistic, humane and altruistic aspects of social interaction that takes place in any occasion or celebration.

For 13 years now, the festival has become a social gathering marked by exchanging of amenities among traditional leaders, elders, allies and subordinates in varying tones.

It is also a pageantry of unique and colorful ethnic rites, rituals and traditions like marriage celebrations, religious ceremonies, anniversaries, funerals, enthronement of royal dignitaries, thanksgiving and other forms of social, political and economic activities.
It is not just an economic activity, but a continuous season of merriment, gaiety and merrymaking accentuated by sharing of gifts, traditional sports competition, dancing, singing and instrumental rendition and other forms of exhibition games, entertainment and amusement.

Kalilangan is also a noble tradition. It is a complete work of art nourished and nurtured by rich cultural heritage that has withstand the test of time from generation to generation.

"GenSan as our city is fondly called has shown its resiliency through the many debacles it has undergone. Being tagged as a Mindanao city surely carries a stigma of a troubled area. Despite all these, the city with the support of the different NGOs and the private sector remained focus on our goal to put our beloved city in the map of investors and tourists alike,"
t the festival's grand opening on February 16, thousands of "Generals" braved the not-so-good weather to be entertained as grade school and secondary school dancers in colorful costumes performed favorite folk dances.

A colorful fireworks display later awed the crowd with children cheering and shouting with joy and excitement. The Kalilangan 2016 organizers also assured the public the events and activities this year will enhance the people's awareness of the city's cultural heritage and promote an avenue for peace and unity among the constituents.

EDSA

Many people celebrate People Power Anniversary by wearing yellow, which was the official color of the LABAN party, the rival political group that challenged the government back in 1986. Much of the festivities and activities occur in the city of Manila, particularly Epifanio Delos Santos Avenue (EDSA), a major public road where people flock to visit. Activities include programs such as church masses and concerts.
Many people also flash the LABAN (fight) sign, which is an “L” sign using one’s index finger and thumb.  Media stations broadcast programs about the event through a live feed of street celebrations, documentaries about the revolution, and interviews with prominent political figures and personalities. The print media publish news and feature articles on stories related to this event.
People Power Anniversary in the Philippines is a school holiday only, so both public and private schools are closed. Business remains open on this day. There is less traffic, especially in cities, on this day, giving commuters a chance to enjoy a brief respite from rush hour traffic woes. There is no disruption of services in public and mass transport systems, with regular routes and schedules remaining intact.
The story behind People Power Anniversary traces back to events that occurred from February 22 to 25, 1986. Masses of disillusioned people, mainly from urban Manila, staged a revolution on the streets of Manila. This revolution eventually led to the downfall of a government that many people saw as corrupt and oppressive.
A major road called EDSA, in Manila, was the stage for crucial events that occurred during the revolution. Nearly two million people were protesting on this street at one point during this historical event. Many Filipinos consider the holiday as historic and important because the revolution changed and reformed the political system in the Philippines.
People Power Anniversary was a working holiday on February 25 in previous years. It was not a day off for work or schools but activities and ceremonies to celebrate the anniversary would continue to occur. In 2009 the Monday nearest February 25 was declared a special holiday for all schools (both public and private).
People Power Anniversary in the Philippines commemorates the successful non-violent demonstration in Manila in 1986 that saw a change of government for the nation.Let us not forget the history of our country and our freewill.
thank you!

SAME SEX MARRIAGE

Marriage has always been a covenant between a man and a woman which is by its nature ordered toward the procreation and education of children and the unity and well being of the spouses. Marriage is one of the sacred of being a christian. It unite the two person as one..Marriage is only for Man and Woman.. SAME SEX MARRIAGE is it right? making a blog like this is very interesting..it very timely and relevant nowadays.Marriage is not just any relationship between human beings. It is a relationship rooted in human nature and thus governed by natural law.

The promoters of same-sex “marriage” propose something entirely different. They propose the union between two men or two women. This denies the self-evident biological, physiological, and psychological differences between men and women which find their complementary in marriage. It also denies the specific primary purpose of marriage: the perpetuation of the human race and the raising of children.t is in the child’s best interests that he be raised under the influence of his natural father and mother. This rule is confirmed by the evident difficulties faced by the many children who are orphans or are raised by a single parent, a relative, or a foster parent.

The unfortunate situation of these children will be the norm for all children of a same-sex “marriage.” A child of a same-sex “marriage” will always be deprived of either his natural mother or father. He will necessarily be raised by one party who has no blood relationship with him. He will always be deprived of either a mother or a father role model.

Same-sex “marriage” ignores a child’s best interests.

In the name of the “family,” same-sex “marriage” serves to validate not only such unions but the whole homosexual lifestyle in all its bisexual and transgender variants.

Civil laws are structuring principles of man's life in society. As such, they play a very important and sometimes decisive role in influencing patterns of thought and behavior. They externally shape the life of society, but also profoundly modify everyone’s perception and evaluation of forms of behavior.

recognition of same-sex “marriage” would necessarily obscure certain basic moral values, devalue traditional marriage, and weaken public morality.

homosexual activists argue that same-sex “marriage” is a civil rights issue similar to the struggle for racial equality in the 1960s.

This is false.

First of all, sexual behavior and race are essentially different realities. A man and a woman wanting to marry may be different in their characteristics: one may be black, the other white; one rich, the other poor; or one tall, the other short. None of these differences are insurmountable obstacles to marriage. The two individuals are still man and woman, and thus the requirements of nature are respected.

Same-sex “marriage” opposes nature. Two individuals of the same sex, regardless of their race, wealth, stature, erudition or fame, will never be able to marry because of an insurmountable biological impossibility.

Marriage is not the creature of any State. Rather, it was established by God in Paradise for our first parents, Adam and Eve. As we read in the Book of Genesis: “God created man in His image; in the Divine image he created him; male and female He created them. God blessed them, saying: ‘Be fertile and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it.’” (Gen. 1:28-29)
The same was taught by Our Savior Jesus Christ: “From the beginning of the creation, God made them male and female. For this cause a man shall leave his father and mother; and shall cleave to his wife.” (Mark 10:6-7).

This is the most important reason. Whenever one violates the natural moral order established by God, one sins and offends God. Same-sex “marriage” does just this. Accordingly, anyone who professes to love God must be opposed to it.

My Next President

National Election is fast approaching, and it is the time to us to vote who are the most deserving among those candidates especially who runs for presidency. It is the time for changes,in all terms and aspects.Time to think who among them can rule the nation with their platforms.
I've always been updated about daily news, all about their agendas, how to run our country and their advocacy and promises for better life. But my question in all this candidates is how can they perform and lessen the poverty. Poverty is the main problem in this country, this would be the one factor in choosing who the right president would be.
Solving the problem in poverty comes in different factors. One of the biggest factor is how the President provide employment to every filipino's in this country. Second factor is the crime rate. The President should have the discipline on how to eliminate and minimize the crime rate of our country. We should be wise in  choosing our next president. It is our time that our voices would be hear from local to national elections. For my own opinion the right president should have the character and quality of a true leader that has concern on its  subordinates and underlings. A leader that is just and love to its countrymen.
For my next President i could say that he has the quality to lead this country. I see his determination and the strong identity that a good leader should have. And he already prove his good leadership though his experiences and educational background. He was the mayor of Davao city for 20 years i guess, and we all know that this city was known for the 2015 safest city in the Philippines, which contributes to their tourism and investors. With this Davao city has less poverty and more employment than any other Cities in Mindanao. If he would be the next president i think that our country would be much better and safer.
To my fellow countrymen ladies and gentlemen i highly promote and endorse my next President Mayor " DIGONG" Duterte.. Lets vote wisely not for money!!!!

Thank you for reading my blog.
